SAFETY SHOES: TYPES, SELECTION, MATERIALS, AND USAGE GUIDELINES FOR WORKPLACE FOOT PROTECTION

Safety shoes are essential for protecting workers’ feet in various workplaces such as construction sites, factory workshops, and industries like iron and steel metallurgy, machinery manufacturing, and automobile manufacturing.

There are several types of safety shoes available. Toe – protecting shoes shield the toes from heavy objects. Puncture – preventing shoes are designed to stop sharp objects from piercing through. Insulating shoes provide protection against electrical hazards, and acid – and alkali – resistant shoes are suitable for environments where there are chemical spills.

When it comes to selection, it’s crucial to base the choice on the nature and degree of hazards in the working environment. For example, in a construction site with a lot of heavy equipment and falling objects, toe – protecting shoes would be a must.

The materials used in safety shoes also play a vital role. The main materials for safety shoe soles include rubber, plastic, rubber – plastic combined materials, polyurethane, and natural leather. When purchasing, one should check the outsole. It should be flat with clear patterns. Pressing the sole gently with a fingernail, it should be elastic, not too hard, and not peel off. A sole that fails these tests may have a low rubber content and too much recycled rubber filler, making it prone to breakage.

In terms of usage guidelines, safety shoes should come with a product certificate and an instruction manual. Before use, workers must read the manual according to the usage conditions and use the shoes correctly. For special protective safety shoes, after use, they should be checked and kept clean, then stored in a pollution – free and dry place. Additionally, protection shoes should have an anti – slip design to prevent operators from slipping and causing accidents. Even if newly bought safety shoes rub against the feet, it doesn’t necessarily mean there is a product quality issue.
