SAFETY SHOES: TYPES, SELECTION, AND MAINTENANCE

主图 (43)

Safety shoes are designed to protect workers’ feet and are commonly used in workplaces where foot protection is required, such as construction sites and factory workshops. There are various types of safety shoes, each serving a specific purpose. For example, oil – resistant safety shoes are used in places where there is oil on the ground or oil may splash; waterproof safety shoes are used in workplaces with water on the ground or water splashes; cold – resistant safety shoes protect workers’ feet from frostbite in low – temperature operations. There are also those that protect toes, prevent punctures, are insulating, and resistant to acids and alkalis.

When it comes to the selection of safety shoes, it should be based on the nature and degree of hazards in the working environment. Safety shoes should come with a product certificate and an instruction manual. Before use, one should read the manual according to the usage conditions and use them correctly. Additionally, when purchasing, pay attention to the sole. The main materials for safety shoe soles include rubber, plastic, rubber – plastic combined materials, polyurethane, natural leather, etc. Check whether the outsole is flat and whether the patterns are clear. Gently press the sole with your fingernail; it should be elastic, not too hard, and should not peel off. Otherwise, it means that the rubber content of the sole is low and too much recycled rubber filler is used, making the sole prone to breakage and not durable.

Maintenance of safety shoes is also crucial. For special protective safety shoes, check and keep them clean after use, and store them in a pollution – free and dry place. This ensures that the safety shoes can continue to provide reliable protection for workers’ feet.
