SAFETY SHOES: TYPES, FUNCTIONS, SELECTION, AND NATIONAL STANDARD REQUIREMENTS

Safety shoes are specifically designed to protect workers’ feet and are commonly used in workplaces like construction sites and factory workshops where foot protection is crucial. There are various types of safety shoes, each with its own unique functions.

Anti – impact safety shoes mainly prevent falling objects from injuring the feet. Their toe caps are made of impact – resistant materials, which can effectively absorb and disperse the force of impact.

Puncture – resistant safety shoes are another important type. Their soles have strong oil resistance, and the uppers are made of materials such as leather, fabric, and sponge to facilitate users’ work. According to the national standard GB21148 – 2007 “Industrial safety shoes”, these shoes should be able to withstand a puncture force of 1100N, meaning they can resist the puncture of a 4mm – diameter steel needle, protecting the feet from sharp objects.

When it comes to the selection of safety shoes, it should be based on the nature and degree of hazards in the working environment. For example, if there are many falling objects in the workplace, anti – impact safety shoes are a better choice; if there are sharp objects on the ground, puncture – resistant safety shoes are more suitable.

In addition, safety shoes should come with a product certificate and an instruction manual. Before use, workers should read the manual according to the usage conditions and use the shoes correctly. For special protective safety shoes, after use, they need to be checked and kept clean, and stored in a pollution – free and dry place to ensure their long – term effectiveness.
